I found an amazing gem while reading the book of Daniel to my kids the other night. I hadn’t seen this before.
In the past year as I read the Old Testament I have learned to look for Jesus Christ and I am finding him everywhere. The centrality and supremacy of Jesus Christ is the key needed to interpret and understand the Old Testament. Jesus himself taught us this concept.
Luke 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He (the resurrected Jesus) explained to them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.
A little back ground info, the king Nebuchadnezzar from Babylon had just had a confusing and troubling dream, so being the murderous dictator he was, he demanded an interpretation from the soothsayers, or Chaldeans or sorcerers of his country or else they would all be killed. Of which Daniel was one in exile from Judah. So Daniel prayed and God told him the kings dream and its interpretation.
The interpretation was that God had used this dream to show Nebuchadnezzar the future as it regards the kingdoms of the earth. The statue in the dream represented the current and coming kingdoms of the earth.
But then there was this rock cut out without hands which crushed all the other kingdoms and then became a great mountain which filled the whole earth.
Daniel 2:34-35 “You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands, and it struck the statue on its feet and iron and clay crushed them. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were crushed all the same time and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them was found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.”
The Lord Jesus Christ is that rock which comes from God and crushes all the kingdoms of the earth and fills the whole earth. This was a messianic prophecy, the first of many in Daniels experiences and writings. God chose this king to reveal what he was doing in the earth.
So if you are in turmoil about what might befall this nation during this election season and the prospects of new leadership, be encouraged because, even if we find ourselves being crushed and ground to powder as a nation its ok, it is to give place for the kingdom of Jesus Christ which is continuously and increasingly filling the whole earth.
Now that is something we can all agree on and get behind.
