A Lifetime of Seeing Christ

We can know about Jesus Christ, we can believe in Jesus Christ but I am convinced that the most important thing that can happen to us spiritually is to see Jesus Christ in a spiritual way.

We know about Jesus Christ and believe in Jesus Christ with our mind and intellect which are natural fleshly abilities.

But seeing Jesus Christ is a thing of the heart. When Peter confessed to Jesus that he is the Christ, the son of God, Jesus responded “blessed are you, flesh and blood did not reveal this to you but my father in heaven” (paraphrased).

“And I will say this, brethren, you do not know anything about the Church if you have not seen Jesus Christ —however much you have read and talked about it, if you have not seen Him, (and he is a lifetime of seeing) you do not know what the Church is. It is not a ‘thing’, an ‘it’. But if you have seen Him, it is a Him, it is a Person Who is dwelling in personsthat is the Church” – T. Austin Sparks

“A lifetime of seeing Jesus Christ” this is the life of a Christian gripped with fascination by their Lord. And then together in groups we reflect Jesus Christ into our towns and cities and nations, this is the ministry of the church.  If we can spiritually see him as he is, we will be conformed to him. It is not a matter of much study or earning our way to him or achieving some enlightenment. Seeing Jesus Christ in the Spirit first takes an act of God himself.

He reveals himself to human hearts, and as we see him more and more the veil between he and us is removed. Seeing Christ becomes a progressive act that does not occur during sermons or through worship songs in and of themselves.  It happens to the person who has an inner walk with the Lord, a person who is responding to him, a person who is seeking the Lord with all of their heart and to a people who do all of this with other believers.

seeking Jesus

Can you see him today? He looks like the horizon lighting up after a long cold night?

…and God said ‘Let There Be Light’

The Real Source of Divisiveness and Disunity

After the election of Donald Trump in November 2016 he, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama called for unity among Americans. This particularly surprised me coming from these three, they all seem quite skilled at divisiveness. They have to be in order to be successful against one another.

I think there is something deeper going on and is originating within the church. As long as Christians are supremely distracted from Jesus Christ, divisions will continue. This is true by default because only he can unite us. Not common theology, not common distinctions, not family ties, not common culture, Jesus and Jesus alone is our unity.

We are distracted by many things. But even devout Christians seem distracted by our “ministries”, even by so-called “preaching the gospel”. These good things divert our attention, resources and energy from our life source. And then cease to be good things because they distract us from the Lord Jesus Christ, they become just idle actions not directed from heaven. Our distractions divide us because they separate us from the one thing that can unite humanity. That is the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Obama was not the root cause of our national divisiveness, the church was. He was just the agent that made it happen…this time.

Christians distracted from Jesus Christ….this is currently planet earth’s #1 problem.

What happens exactly when Christians gather together is the single most important happening in all of creation.

All of creation is eagerly waiting on us to look to him, to display him and to bear his image in the earth once again.

The One and Only Christian Burden

Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

“LEARN OF ME” is to seek him first, is to gather around only him.

“LEARN OF JESUS CHRIST” this is our only burden and it is wonderfully light and easy. This is the key to living the Christian life.

We cannot find real rest if we fail to ‘learn of Christ’.

Someone who puts burdens and demands or rules on themselves and on others and calls that Christianity or Christian ministry has not yet “learned of Christ”. This mindset is a mixture of humanism, human strength or greatness, with serving Christ.

Do not listen to them!

And do not do this to others, especially your children.

The only Christian burden or duty is to learn of Jesus Christ, in other words ‘seek him first then all things will be added to you.’ Matt 6:33
