Not By Might

Not By Ability, Strength & Wealth

Then he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,‘ says the LORD of hosts.” – Zechariah 4:6

‘Might’ here means human strength, wealth, and ability.

Sometimes it’s hard to determine if a work is being empowered and supported by God. We often look for “fruit” which few agree on what fruit means as some sort of sign that God is in a thing or not.

I’ve seen many Christians have serious reservations about a ministry only to be disarmed and silenced by what they think is spiritual fruit.

A great way of evaluating a thing is not only looking for signs of fruit. But by looking at what sort of fuel a work needs.

  • Does it need a massive flow of human might and greatness?
  • Does it need a large flow of money?

The extent that a thing is from Jesus it will not need human strength, ability, and wealth. He just does not build with those things. He never did and never will.

If a work requires a powerful man/woman to happen and a lot of money, then it is a work of man. Not Jesus. As good and religious as it may seem… don’t bother with it.

Jesus may be able to work in a little here and there but he does that in spite of man. There is also a lot of fake fruit out there that causes confusion. Every religion claims “fruit” from heaven as some sort of evidence that God is on their side.

Don’t look for fruit, real fruit will be obvious and consistent with the life of Jesus if it’s real.

Instead just look for Jesus with great intensity and consistency. If we will do this He will build with us. He will produce real and lasting fruit as we seek him… preferably together.

Loyalty to Money

Loyalty to money is synonymous with hostility to Jesus Christ. Not passive indifference… hostility.

We can still be religious and pretend he is pleased but we absolutely must be hostile and aggressively opposed to Jesus himself.

Another way of saying it: Jesus Christ is incompatible with what we need to become to make ourselves wealthy. Instead be content with your simple, humble lifestyle, that pleases him.

He may make us wealthy after that but if not. Be content with just having your needs met and giving some away.

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” – Jesus Christ in Matthew 6:24

If All Prophesy

Growing Up to Know Jesus

I know many parents, myself included, who want their children to grow up to know Jesus Christ. The last thing we want is for our kids to just see him as just a religious tradition. This is happening in an alarming number of young people. It seems to me that we should make an effort to raise our children in a community of people in hot pursuit of Jesus Christ. In urgent pursuit of nothing else and no one else. Imagine if we trained our young people to share Jesus Christ in every meeting, imagine if we began to follow the training of Paul recorded in 1 Corinthians, “if all prophesy“.

“Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and ungifted men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad? But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an ungifted man enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all; the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you.” – 1 Corinthians 14:23-25 NASB

It says ‘AllNotSome

  • IF ALL PROPHESY”
  • “CONVICTED BY ALL
  • “CALLED TO ACCOUNT BY ALL

Paul counted on all of his people participating in order one by one.

There is something supernatural when Jesus Christ can speak and control and orchestrate a bunch of nobodies. A bunch of unprofessional clergymen; so called “lay people” having a meeting orchestrated by the spirit of Jesus himself. Simple men and women of all ages who have the singular and powerful bond of adoring and pursuing Jesus Christ.

One by one, all participating, in order.

I’ve seen this first hand, its real, people actually meet this way. It takes just a little training and some supernatural love but it is possible.

Jesus, when seen alive in a variety of people, is irresistible. Seeing him work among a variety of personalities, genders and ages declares him to all generations far better than sermons and songs. Which seem to wear out rather quickly any more.

If really we care about the next generation knowing Jesus perhaps it is time we reconsider our meeting traditions.
