From Indifference To Hostility

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.” -Jesus Christ
Revelation‬ ‭3:15-17‬ ‭

Indifference to Jesus Christ is akin to hostility for him, for many it is one small step away. Indifference to him is the ‘gateway drug’ to open war against him. In the future indifference toward Christ will be sucked into open spiritual war against Christ, unless his light can shine within you or your kids.. When he “spits you out” you will hate him and his followers.

If you struggle with this indifference toward him it is likely not your fault, you have not heard about him and from him accurately.

In all likelihood, what you have heard of him is deeply partial, just a minuscule part of him. so minuscule it is almost a misrepresentation of him.

The magnitude of who he really is and what he is doing is almost beyond human words. Only a crowd of his mesmerized followers working together, gathering often, can begin to describe and proclaim him accurately, to one another and to their town.

Coming Back

“You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
‭‭James‬ ‭4:4-10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

James provides the solution to the indifferent Christian, to the lukewarm, to the best friend of the world.

Firstly, it’s to repent, verses 7-10 above all describe repentance. In the spirit of John the Baptist repent, oconfess your sins “I loved the world but I am siding now against Satan and with Jesus Christ and everyone needs to know it.”

Secondly, draw near to God, repentance is the first part of this. But recommit yo seeking him, being in hot pursuit of him.

Thirdly, understand the line that has been drawn between the world and Jesus’ kingdom. Side with that line, respect it, cooperate with it. Stand on one side of it and don’t cross it. Break free from inappropriate relationships. Realize that your attitude to the world needs to be love for people but contempt for the satanic system that enslaves those se people.

But if those same people won’t come out of the world with you. Then friendship with them crosses that line of loyalty to Jesus himself and becomes hostility for him. And it becomes sin, and it causes the Spirit of God to be jealous over us as, see James 4:5.

Independence or Indifference

A Christian who has an haughty, independent, self-confidence about themselves and their religious mindset should not be trusted.

Nor should a Christian who is indifferent about Jesus Christ. Caring little about him personally.

Unfortunately I think I have been both.

Independence from Jesus Christ or Indifference about Jesus Christ. Which is worse?

I’m not sure one is worse … maybe it is the same attitude expressed by different personalities. Neither has much time or consideration for the one they claim as Lord.
