Ever hear Christians say this? “Serving people makes me the most happy.”
Might be true for some people….sometimes, depending on their mood and outlook.
If it’s limited and in their control ? Or maybe I’m being cynical, or maybe not.
Nevertheless, since when should “what makes me happy” be the guide for the Christian life? It should not matter what “makes me the most happy” or fulfilled.
When we boast about what “makes me happy” perhaps what we are really saying is that “serving people when it’s on display and I get credit for it (people appreciate or applaud for it) makes me feel good about myself.”
When serving doesn’t “make me happy” that’s when it’s service. Until then it’s probably your religion on display.
When it’s unnoticed and disregarded, when it’s hard and it hurts and it’s sacrificial. When those you serve spit in your face, wipe off the saliva and do it again, serve then. I’ll applaud for that.
