Shouting At the Deaf?

I’ve spent a considerable amount of energy in the past 4 years sharing, praying and appealing to Christian friends and family about the way church meetings are done in my area. It does seem that most if not all of that energy and writing, and praying and ads in Craigslist and Meetup.com and the local newspaper have fallen on deaf ears.

And if deafness is an accurate description then it’s important to realize that deaf people are not ignoring us when we speak to them about something. They simply cannot hear. They aren’t being rude or cold.

How can Christians be deaf to something spiritual? That I don’t fully understand, perhaps they aren’t really Christians, or perhaps it’s something else causing it, that is not my business.

What I do know with certainty is that Spiritual deafness can be undone by the gospel of the kingdom of Jesus Christ. That gospel, preached by John the Baptist with Jesus Christ. Was the combination of heaven and earth, God with humanity. It links God to humanity, to earth, to us physically. Jesus Christ awakens people from darkness to light.

The gospel is not to be seen as a ticket to heaven after we die. That was never it’s primary role. It was and is intended to be the merging, the re-taking over of earth by God through Christ.

So what is needed much more than people wanting to do church better; is a resurgence of people preaching the gospel of the kingdom of Jesus Christ. And that is what I am setting out to do, Lord willing.

If Your Eye is Bad

Money represents success and power within the kingdom of darkness.

But in the kingdom of Jesus Christ it’s not much of a thing at all. Take it or leave it.

Jesus doesn’t use it to reach people. And he doesn’t teach us to use it to reach people.

We just wish and pretend he does, because we love its power.

The best attitude to have about money is a take or leave it attitude that is very generous for the poor around us.

If the wealthy Christians in the west would give more to the poor around us, and less on fancy buildings and expensive church shows maybe the poor among us would stop harassing the country with this constant push for govt-based socialism.

“But if your eye is bad (after money) your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”

Matthew 6:23

Money-Focused “Missions” Work

I went overseas once on a mission trip and I do hope to again. Recently it occurred to me that having extra money greatly interferes with the missionary work that the Lord is involved with. Because it fools wealthy Christians into thinking God wants them to throw their money around as a missionary.

Sometimes I wish there were a visible display of spiritual health and prosperity instead of money and nice buildings.

If there were then I’m not sure so many rich people would be the ones traveling overseas and seen as the Christians who should have authority and credibility.

I think some 3rd world Christians who don’t always have enough to even eat and who are being harassed, abused, and pursued ought to be the ones coming here. And telling us to take our “deceitful riches” elsewhere to deceive someone else.

If all we want to do is help the poor with our money just send cash via Western Union to individuals or donate to a company or charity overseas rather than making it about ourselves.

“But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.”

Acts 8:20-22 ESV
