Criticizing Younger Followers

It bothers me to hear church leaders criticizing their younger peers for doing better what they taught them to do by example.

I read an article by the leader of the Christian band Skillet . He was criticizing worship leaders for explaining why they no longer believe in God.

Him criticizing other worship leaders for voicing their loss of faith. Reminds me of an older pastor criticizing a young pastor for drawing a bigger crowd by using the same techniques he’s used for a lifetime …only better. The young guy sometimes just do it better. It’s a natural evolution of their worldly way of doing church. The kids just do it better, don’t criticize them, just begin to do it the Lords way.

I remember as a child an anti-smoking commercial a young boy yelling back at his father “I learned it by watching you.”

Similarly, “Worship leaders” which are not even really a thing from scripture, using their celebrity to voice doubt publically is sort of the natural evolution of entertainment-church mindset.

Entertainment church leaders need talented entertainers, not apostles and not necessarily even Jesus followers. Just musical talent and the desire to put on a great looking and sounding show.

Of course some of them will use their influence to pull people away from the Lord. Were they ever really with Jesus or just playing the part you provided for them? Didn’t you see that coming Mr. Skillet? Godless things devolve, they decay, they erode and are undone even at church.

God is for …Jesus

🎤🎼”God is for me, I am who you say I am”🎹

There is a sliver of Christian truth to these lyrics, but only…if applied to the ecclesia.

But there is also a massive amount of over applying and misapplying this truth to every thing and everyone labeled Christian.

To be clear, God is FOR Jesus Christ exclusively. And he is FOR the living breathing community of Jesus Christ.

He is not FOR religious individuals who fit right into Satan’s world system. Be it his Christian religious money-system we sometimes call church or ministry. He is not for individuals who refuse his painful discipleship with their pursuit of ease and pleasure with wealth and who are living according to the pride of life or the lust of the flesh.

If that applies to you, don’t waste your mental energy applying those lyrics to yourself.

But IF Jesus Christ can be absolute center of your life, if he personally is your connection to others. If knowing him is your source of love with and for others. If he is why you gather and is not just your religious mascot. Then grab some mics and sing it loud “He is for us, not against us, we are who You say we are”

Serving For Happiness

Ever hear Christians say this? “Serving people makes me the most happy.”

Might be true for some people….sometimes, depending on their mood and outlook.

If it’s limited and in their control ? Or maybe I’m being cynical, or maybe not.

Nevertheless, since when should “what makes me happy” be the guide for the Christian life? It should not matter what “makes me the most happy” or fulfilled.

When we boast about what “makes me happy” perhaps what we are really saying is that “serving people when it’s on display and I get credit for it (people appreciate or applaud for it) makes me feel good about myself.”

When serving doesn’t “make me happy” that’s when it’s service. Until then it’s probably your religion on display.

When it’s unnoticed and disregarded, when it’s hard and it hurts and it’s sacrificial. When those you serve spit in your face, wipe off the saliva and do it again, serve then. I’ll applaud for that.
