To say “God is for me” does not necessarily mean “God wants specific things for me that I think are good” or “God does not want things for me that I’ve decided are bad.”
Because my good can be Gods bad and my bad can be God’s good.
Examples: Even certain illnesses protect us from far worse other illnesses.
If you’ve ever had a toddler you know what they decide are “good” for them and the family, (candy for dinner) are not the same as the parents. Sometimes yes, but often it’s the opposite.
Getting into a great college might be good for the finances of a person long term. But it might be a terrible mistake spiritually for that particular student.
Getting a big promotion with a raise and fancy title might be good for the ego and income but it also might be the end of your family and free time.
Isn’t this conflict exactly what Jesus experienced?
Don’t judge whether something is of God based on your good or bad. Jesus Christ is how to judge and flow through life. Constant pursuit of Jesus Christ enables us to be led of the spirit (him), then outward good or bad happenings or big decisions have minimal impact and cause us minimal confusion.
How will this decision affect my daily seeking Jesus and living surrendered to Jesus with others? I’ll be too busy for him? – ok that’s easy (bad)
No thanks Harvard,
No thanks promotion to VP,
No thanks new school that removes me from my Jesus friends
You’re out social media staring-you are taking too much of me.
No thanks business start which demands all to make it successful .
If a self-help business guru advice makes a Jesus life with others impossible or subservient to pursuit of “good things” like success and more money, then it’s not in Gods will ! even as it makes you rich.
